Why does the daily trading of a barrel of crude Oil affect the price of refined gasoline at the neighborhood gas station?

One of the least publicized time lines is the time required by the oil companies to pump crude oil out of the ground, refine it, transport and deliver the refined gasoline to your neighborhood gas station. Note that there are fewer and fewer independent and even chain gas stations in the US.

Thank you for your inquiry to the Energy Information Administration's (EIA) National Energy Information Center (NEIC). Here's a very very rough approximation: 10 days refining, blending, scheduling for pipeline shipment 10 days average pipeline shipment 5 days in terminal before loading to truck 1 day turnover in service station

Another potential source of an estimate is: www.api.org I hope this helps. Please contact us again if you need additional assistance.
